AEGEAN FREE ZONE RECORDS 10% YOY INCREASE IN TRADE VOLUME IN JANUARY

The Aegean Free Zone has reached the highest annual trade figure since its foundation, boasting a trade volume of 5 billion dollars last year. It launched services in 1990 as the first free production zone in Türkiye, the Aegean Free Zone had seen a maximum 4 billion dollar trade volume over the past decades, which soared to 5 billion amid an increase of 30% in 2011, ranking 1st among the free zone trade volumes in Türkiye.

The Aegean Free Zone closed the first month of 2012 with 381.2 million dollar trade volume, staging a 10% year over year increase in January, while its total trade volume since its foundation spiked to 45 billion dollars. Topping the trade volume list of Türkiye's free zones, the Aegean Free Zone is also pacesetting employment figures. Currently accommodating 240 companies, 76 of which are of foreign origin, the Zone employs 19,500 people. 77% of the employment originates from foreign capital companies. The employment number is anticipated to jump to 22,000, following the completion of ongoing investments in the Zone in late 2012.
