Space Camp Türkiye welcomes NASA Astronaut (Dr.) Ellen Baker to its Customized Outer Space Adventure program, April 22-26. Astronaut Baker is a veteran of three space missions, logging a total of 28 days and 14 hours.
Dr. Baker flew onboard the Atlantis and Columbia space shuttles between 1989 and 1995. As a doctor of medicine who specializes in internal diseases, she participated in several significant space missions which involved the launch of the Galileo rocket to explore Jupiter, scientific experiments involving “crystal growth”, docking with the Russian Space Station Mir and deploying a Spacelab module into space.
Baker is scheduled to speak about working and living in space. Attending students will have the opportunity to understand more about the daily activities of astronauts while they are in space. To date, Space Camp Türkiye has hosted 21 space travelers. This includes Apollo 16 Astronaut Charlie Duke, the youngest man to walk on the Moon; four crew members from STS-135, the last space shuttle mission; Romanian Cosmonaut Dorin Prunariu and NASA Astronaut Shannon Lucid, who logged a total of 223 days in space.
