The seventh annual science fair took place at the ESBAS Child Care Center on February 19. Students, teachers and parents from Aegean Free Zone user companies showed a remarkable interest in the fair.
Children exhibited their experiments and projects they prepared individually or as a group and presented the details of their projects to the visitors. One of the most interesting displays was a project designed by kids in the 5-6 age group entitled “Myths - Masks and Historical Artifacts.” The project was prepared on an interactive whiteboard as part of the GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) program. The GEMS program engages students in experience and experimentation to explore science and math, and combines it with art, creative drama and 3-D, making learning more fun and enjoyable.
The ESBAS Child Care Center aims to fully implement this new learning concept and motivate young kids to pursue math and science by doing fun activities in the GEMS program. Children can explore the importance of accessing knowledge at young ages and experience the transition of knowledge from tangible to intangible. The subject of Myths – Masks and Historical Artifacts was selected from among many others by the 5-6 year-old group. The program consisted of four stages that comprised of different subjects. All children actively participated in each stage of the program.
Counselors from Space Camp Türkiye, one of only three space camps in the world and located in the Aegean Free Zone, had lively discussions with the kids about planets, space shuttles and robots.
