American automotive spare parts manufacturer, Cummins and Ege University`s Ege Vocational School signed a cooperation agreement for the special project, “Technical Education for Society and Promoting Women’s Employment” in a ceremony on Sept. 29.
It was noted during the signing ceremony that foreign-capitalized companies at the Aegean Free Zone not only invest at the Zone, but also support community projects and generate employment through their high-tech manufacturing activities.
Expressing his admiration for the corporate social responsibility projects of the foreign-capitalized companies at the Aegean Free Zone, in addition to their contributions to the economy, ESBAŞ CEO, Dr. Faruk Güler noted, “On behalf of ESBAŞ, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Cummins as well as Gates, Mahle, Fokker Elmo and Delphi companies for being a part of this project. I would also like to congratulate Schneider Electric, a foreign-capital investment, and Çimstone, one of our domestic companies, for their sensitivity and express my sincere thanks for their support.”
Further elaborating about companies which operate at the Aegean Free Zone are just as meticulous in conducting a social responsibility project in Izmir as they are in selecting a location for investment, Güler said, “Cummins expressed their desire to carry out a social responsibility project for women’s employment the moment they decided to invest at our Zone. We brought the company representatives together with Ege University's Ege Vocational School's Principal, Prof. Dr. Semih Güneş, who has been our partner in many projects. Today, following mutual discussions, the project has come this far. We are extremely happy to see this project in implementation. It is a true model of industry-university cooperation and this model is very important for development.”
“Technical Education for Society and Promoting Women’s Employment,” an initiative of Ege University's Ege Vocational School, aims to establish the infrastructure of metachronous laboratories, training technical employees to meet the requirements of the industry in the metachronous field and increase the employment of women in the industry. Thanks to the project that received financial support from the
Izmir Development Agency, female students will gain employment."
